Commitment Announcement

Focus Area: Religion, Conflict, and Reconciliation
Project: Just Peace Summit 2007
Commitment By: Jane M. Garrett
Partner: Creation
Value: $250,000 to help fund and raise awareness for the We Are Family Foundation’s (WAFF) Just Peace Summit, budget of approximately $1,000,000

Objective: To teach and inspire a generation of global peacemakers by supporting, promoting and funding the We Are Family Foundation’s (WAFF) Just Peace Summit. The summit, scheduled for 2007, will bring together fifty qualified teen leaders from countries all over the world. The objective of the Summit is to explore and discuss conflict, resolution and the possibility of peace and arm the children with the tools and information to return to their respective countries and make a long lasting impact in furtherance of world peace.
Commitment: To raise $250,000 towards WAFF’s Summit budget of approximately $1,000,000. Ms. Garrett and Creation will raise private donations and seek sponsorships, in addition to a commitment by Creation has to donate its CD sales, concert proceeds and on-line music download proceeds to WAFF for the Just Peace Summit.
Background: Creation was formed by six, then twelve year olds to play music and help make a difference in the world. At a benefit concert in December, 2005 they met their first goal of raising the funds to build a school in Mali, Africa and send ten American teens to physically help build it. At this time they were introduced to 2005 CGI Participant, Jane Garrett and found they have a shared vision for a more peaceful, tolerant and multicultural world. When the WAFF announced their intention to host a “Just Peace Summit” inspired by the late 13 year-old poet and peacemaker Mattie J.T. Stepanek and former President Jimmy Carter’s best selling book “Just Peace”, their global initiative was recognized. Through this shared vision they hope to mitigate the world’s racial and religious divides and inspire the children of the world to work towards peace.
