Dear Friends:
Last September, world leaders from the public, private and non-profit sectors gathered in New York City for the first meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, a non-partisan project of my foundation. Bridging differences in religion, race, nationality, ethnicity and politics, these leaders worked together to identify specific actions they could take right now to address key challenges we face in this era of globalization. These dedicated leaders then signed declarations of commitment, pledging to take these actions.
I had high hopes for the meeting, but the results have been even better than I imagined. The Initiative has inspired nearly 300 commitments, valued at more than $2 billion, and a number of partnerships with great potential have been formed.
The success of this first meeting is a testament to the dedication and integrity of the participants. In attendance were 35 current and 10 former heads of state, forward-thinking CEOs, religious leaders and heads of non-governmental organizations, all of whom came armed with ideas and enthusiasm that were contagious.
I encourage you to read about all of the wonderful commitments that have been made. Some of them are already full funded; others are actively seeking funding and are listed on the site under Partnership Opportunities. If you come across one that interests you, please send an email to pledge@clintonglobalinitiative.org, and we will be happy to facilitate your involvement.
To continue the Clinton Global Initiative, we have established a permanent staff and plan to build upon the success of the first meeting for many years to come. I have great faith in our collective power to make a significant and lasting difference. We owe it to our children, and our children’s children, to try.
Sincerely,
