His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein

Monarch of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein was born in 1962 in Amman, Jordan. He assumed his constitutional powers as Monarch of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on February 7, 1999 following the death of his father, His Majesty the late King Hussein. He attended the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK and received his Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. After his educational career he served in the Jordanian Armed Forces and Royal Jordanian Air force, including positions as Commander of the Royal Jordanian Special Forces and Special Operations Commander. His Majesty King Abdullah II hosted the World Economic Forum’s annual Global Reconciliation Summit in Jordan in 2003 and 2004, where he discussed the future of the Arab world, the true nature of Islam, and the need for reconciliation in Iraq and Palestine. “True Islam,” he said, “supports a democratic environment that respects human life, human rights and the rule of law.”
